ISLAND DREAMS HONORED BY WAKATOBI
Unique Award Placed 35 Feet Underwater
HOUSTON (October 1, 2006) – Houston, Texas-based Island Dreams Travel was recently honored by Wakatobi Dive Resort of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Wakatobi took the opportunity of a visit from Island Dreams’ owner Ken Knezick to acknowledge Island Dreams’ decade of service in promotion of this remote island destination. To mark the occasion, a unique plaque was installed at a depth of 35-feet along Wakatobi's beautiful house reef.
Kenneth Knezick, president of Island Dreams, said: "It has been a rewarding experience to work cooperatively with the owners and staff of Wakatobi, and to help foster the rapid growth, progressive improvements, and the superior services Wakatobi has come to offer. Despite its exceedingly remote location, Wakatobi has become one of the world’s very finest dive resorts, while never losing sight of the critical importance of preserving its precious natural environment.”
Wakatobi's visionary founder and guiding light, Lorenz Maeder, explained: "Island Dreams Travel was the very first dive travel specialist to believe in both the philosophy, and the potential, of our conservation-driven dive resort. ‘Where the heck is Wakatobi?’ people used to ask. Ken Knezick and Island Dreams were intrepid enough to discover the answer, and to work tirelessly in placing Wakatobi on every scuba diver’s map. For Ken’s long-term support and friendship, I publicly thank him. I hope he and Island Dreams set an example for others to give new dive operations a chance to grow into a 'must visit destination'.”
Island Dreams’ Knezick also made a point of acknowledging the role of the Indonesian villagers who support Wakatobi and its guests with their vital labors, “I am particularly appreciative of the bond we have been able to establish with the local Indonesians. Wakatobi’s development has made an immense difference in their lives, and been a boon to the economy of the entire region. In return, they have given deeply of themselves and have made us feel very welcome in their islands and marvelous surrounding seas.”
