Dive Kadavu is a PADI facility offering some of the Pacific's finest boat and beach diving. Matagi Island is the smallest of a cluster of volcanic islands off the eastern tip of Taveuni. Wrapped around a submerged crater, Matagi is a divers mecca. The resort offers 14 private cottages set within lovely tropical gardens, along with a main dining and lounge area, a fleet of boats and a dive facility, plus a tree house honeymoon cottage built 30 feet off the ground in an almond tree. Matagi's also great for its beautiful white sand beaches, hiking through the rainforest, or a cultural visit to one of the local native villages. The weekly Meke (Fijian party with lots of dancing and singing) and the demonstration of warrior dances is worth the price of admission. (BTW - In Fijian, the island is spelled Matagi...but pronounced MataNgi. To avoid confusion, the resort has added the "N" to their name.) Following prices are based on the Deluxe Bure Room.

Jean-Michel Cousteau and friends have since purchased the resort and upgraded it to an unprecedented new level of style and functionality. The focus will be on ecological use of the area, with education, entertainment, and cultural enrichment going hand in hand. During specified times of the year, guests will have the opportunity to dive with Jean-Michel Cousteau. At other times, Cousteau biologist Richard Murhpy will serve as host. If you'd like to learn more about this new concept in tourism, call Island Dreams for a brochure on "L'aventure Cousteau."
